The Jaipur Gems Charitable Trust was set up to support Hindustani classical musicians, by providing them with scholarships to improve their talent. Founded in 2007 with the desire to help artists give birth to their talent and take their first flight as a musician, the trust also organizes regular events, where developing artists and legends can perform together. Yash Sacheti, the young generation of Sacheti family was part of the team that curated the 2016 program for the Ugam, held on 8 th October, working hand-in- hand with the legends such as Padma Vibhushan Pandit Shivkumar Sharma and other celebrated musicians of Hindustani Music, under one roof at one time. Yash was also the Host for the 2016 edition of Udaan, introducing the performers and the foundation to the audience.

The next generations for Sacheti family have carried the heritage ahead, encompassing a strong passion for music and arts. The Sacheti family has always been promoting Indian culture, heritage and music particularly classical and semi-classical. They have always believed in encouraging budding artists by presenting their talent to connoisseurs who can appreciate them. Community services, education and medical help are among the other initiatives they undertake.

Established in 2005 by Mr Padam Sacheti in memory of his late father, Shri Inderchandji Sacheti, Ugam is dedicated to promoting Hindustani Classical Music, as well as Indian heritage and culture through classical art. Ugam, which means ‘birth’ gives legendary Indian artists the chance to refer their students to the Jaipur Gems Charitable Trust to take part in the Ugam event.

Shivkumar Sharma and with the financial support of Jaipur Gems, the artists are given a two year scholarship to help them perfect their art and live out their dream. Created with the desire to give birth to the artist and help him take the first flight into the world at Udaan, Ugam is renowned for empowering talent and art in India.

In 2008, Jaipur Gems Charitable Trust created “The Pt. Uma Duttji Sharma Lifetime Achievement Award” to honour stalwarts of Hindustani music at the Ugam ceremony every year to a musician that has improved Hindustani music and helped prolong its legacy. Life Time Achievement Award winners in the past have included Padma Bhushan Smt. Girija Deviji (2008), Bharat Ratna Pt. Bhimsenji Joshiji (2009), Padma Vibhushan Pt. Ram Narayanji (2009), Padma Vibhushan Pt. Jasraj ji (2010), Padma Vibhushan Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasiaji (2011), Padma Vibhushan Dr. M. Every year sees a number of high profile, Chief Guests enjoying the performances, including APJ Abdul Kalam, the ex President of India. The support of these Chief Guests ensures that the events continue to prosper and spread awareness and respect for Hindustani classical music.
